It’s a storyline that would make Bollywood proud. 22-year-old model Urvashi Sharma was shooting for a ‘Kitkat’ commercial when Kumar Taurani, Managing Director of Tips spotted her. The next thing Urvashi knew, she’d been signed on for eight movies to be produced by Tips! ‘‘It took a while to sink in that I had bagged not one, but eight films,’’ says Urvashi, who has now shifted base to Mumbai from Delhi.
It’s not just Urvashi who’s landed meaty roles in tinseltown. Her elder sister Sucheta, a well known Delhi model isn’t doing too badly. She’s worked on a promotional video for the recently-released Pyaare Mohan, starring Fardeen Khan and Viveik Anand Oberoi. It was Urvashi’s recommendation to the director that worked. ‘‘They were looking for a model and I told them about Sucheta. They took a screen test and she bagged the role herself,’’ insists Urvashi defensively.

Of course it helped that the Sharmas had the backing of a modelling agency like Elite Model Management, who didn’t just help Urvashi clinch the contract, but is handling both their modelling assignments. ‘‘While Elite will handle my advertising work, all my film work will be taken care of by Tips, including negotiations with outside banners,’’ says Urvashi, who has done campaigns for Garnier, Globus and Ponds. Her five-year contract with Tips include lead roles in eight films and music videos. Urvashi’s debut movie will be a love-story, which includes the elements of a thriller. The film will be directed by Kookie Gulati, who assisted director Ken Ghosh in Ishq Vishq and Fida. She has already acted in a music video which features Daler Mehendi’s brother Mika.
Sucheta, though, is not so keen on films. ‘‘I don’t mind one-off film projects but I want to become an international supermodel,’’ she says. Her little cameo though is an experiment that she has clearly enjoyed. ‘‘I was scared stiff I would goof up in front of the camera,’’ she laughs. This is one sister duo to watch out for.
